A procedure to augment bone volume in the upper jaw (maxillary sinus area) to allow subsequent implant placement. Makes safe implantation possible even when bone volume is insufficient.
Examination and 3D CT diagnostics
Local anaesthesia
Careful elevation of the sinus floor membrane
Filling the area with bone graft material
Implant placement — immediately or after healing (3–6 months)
Avoid blowing the nose or creating pressure for the first few days
If the implant is placed later, bone healing time of 3–6 months is required
Mild swelling and a feeling of nasal congestion near the sinus are normal
Performed only when clinically indicated. The procedure takes 30–90 minutes.
Sufficient bone volume for successful implant placement
Implantation made possible where it previously was not
A reliable foundation for a long-lasting result
