Aftercare

Proper oral care after your procedure is an essential part of the treatment. Following your doctor's recommendations helps promote faster healing, prevent complications, and maintain long-lasting results.

Post-Procedure Care

After Teeth Whitening

  • Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, and strongly colored foods (such as curry) for the first 48 hours
  • Following these recommendations helps maintain and prolong the whitening results
  • Increased tooth sensitivity may occur in the first few days — this is normal
  • It is recommended to use toothpaste for sensitive teeth
  • Mild gum irritation may occur due to contact with the whitening gel
  • A slight burning sensation is possible and usually resolves on its own within a short time
  • In rare cases, temporary dryness, burning, or slight swelling of the lips may occur
  • These symptoms are temporary and do not require treatment

After Implant Placement and Tooth Extraction

  • Do not eat for the first 2 hours after the procedure
  • During the healing period, avoid foods with small particles (such as rice, seeds, sesame), as they may enter the surgical area and delay healing
  • Avoid hot food and drinks during the first 24 hours
  • Do not rinse your mouth or spit forcefully for 24 hours
  • Do not touch the surgical area with your tongue or hands
  • Apply a cold compress externally for 5–15 minutes with breaks during the first hours to reduce swelling
  • Avoid physical activity, sports, and heat exposure (sauna, bath) for 2–3 days
  • Do not consume alcohol or smoke for at least 48 hours
  • It is strongly recommended to avoid smoking for a longer period, as it slows healing
  • Take all prescribed medications exactly as directed by your doctor
  • Brush your teeth gently, avoiding the surgical area in the first days
  • Maintain overall oral hygiene
  • Follow a soft diet: avoid hard, spicy, and very hot foods
  • Do not chew on the treated side
  • Mild pain, swelling, and slight bleeding in the first days are normal
  • If you wear removable dentures covering the surgical area, minimize their use during the first days
  • If resorbable sutures were placed, they usually dissolve within approximately 4–6 weeks
  • If you experience increasing pain, significant swelling, prolonged bleeding, or fever — contact the clinic immediately

After Sinus Lift Surgery

  • Do not eat for the first 2 hours after the procedure
  • Avoid hot food and drinks during the first 24 hours
  • Do not blow your nose for 4 weeks
  • If you have a runny nose, gently dab it with a tissue without creating pressure
  • If you need to sneeze, do not hold it in — sneeze with your mouth open
  • Avoid activities that increase sinus pressure:
    • Do not lift heavy objects
    • Do not blow up balloons
    • Avoid playing wind instruments
    • Avoid any actions involving blowing or straining
  • Take all prescribed medications as directed by your doctor

After Prosthetic Treatment — Crowns / Veneers / Dentures

  • Avoid eating for the first 1–2 hours after placement
  • During the first 24 hours, avoid very hot and hard foods
  • It is recommended to eat soft foods for the first few days, then gradually return to your normal diet
  • Mild sensitivity to temperature or pressure may occur in the first days — this is normal and these sensations usually disappear on their own
  • After root canal treatment, sensitivity or discomfort may occur as part of the healing process
  • Gums need time to adapt to new restorations (approximately 3–4 weeks); over time they naturally adapt and cover the margins of the restorations
  • Using a mouthwash and proper brushing technique can support healing
  • The tongue may also need time to adjust to new crowns or veneers — slight discomfort while speaking is possible in the first weeks; reading aloud can help speed up adaptation

  • Maintain proper oral hygiene:
    • Brush your teeth at least twice a day
    • Use dental floss or a water flosser at least once a day
    • Poor hygiene may lead to gum inflammation and bad breath
  • Avoid excessive pressure on your teeth — do not bite hard objects (nuts, ice, etc.), as this may damage or displace restorations
  • If you feel discomfort when biting, pressure, or unevenness — contact the clinic for adjustment; timely correction ensures comfort and durability
  • Attend regular check-ups to monitor the condition of your crowns, veneers, or dentures
